I’d be remiss if I didn’t also mention that today, I hit 1,900 days sober, which feels extra meaningful because I get to share this milestone with my cover. If you told me 1,900 days ago that the first novel I publish would feature a sober main character who pretends to be a serial killer in order to track down her sister’s murderer, I would probably have passed out. Yet here we are: a sober author celebrating their sober character.
These two adventures—recovery and publishing—have existed together for nearly a decade, but only came together when I really committed to both 5 years ago. I’ve had success in both because of the existence of the other. I wouldn’t be sober without my books; I wouldn’t have my books without my sobriety.
